The Shrub Oak Boys Lacrosse program is collaborating with the Lakeland Panas Boys Lacrosse program to offer youth boys summer travel lacrosse teams for boys entering grades 5 through 8. This program is designed to offer a more convenient alternative to other travel teams in the area and to introduce our youth players to their eventual high school coaches. The high school coaches will play an integral role in overseeing this new program both as active coaches and general managers of these youth teams. This collaboration will give our youth players the unique opportunity to work with our high school coaches who can instruct them in both the skills and concepts that they would like to see them develop. In addition, by playing as a team throughout the summer, we will have a unique opportunity to improve as a program. This program gives our players a chance to continue to build a chemistry with one another that would otherwise be lost by playing on separate teams during the summer. Coupled with the opportunity to be coached by their high school coaches throughout the summer, this will allow our program, and our athletes, a chance to grow in a way that we have never before had. Our coaches will have the chance to work with our athletes one on one during the summer to develop their individual skills, and pinpoint specific areas that they need to improve. The importance of this one aspect can not be over emphasized, as it will give our athletes a direct plan on how to improve during, and after, the summer. This summer program is designed to give our athletes the best possible summer experience, and allows our program to grow and develop. We try to instill a sense of family and community in the players who come through our program, and having them stay together, and play together, as a family, will help our program reach new heights going forward.
The number of teams we field depends on the number of boys who are committed to playing at the travel level. Practices will tentatively begin the week after our spring season concludes. Practices will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These teams will participate in 4 tournaments. Tournaments under consideration, but not definite, are:
Lehigh Laxfest (June 16, 2018)
Westchester War Games (June 23, 2018)
TBD (June 30, 2018)
Yale Bulldog Bash (July 7, 2018)
